Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Lombok's most spectacular waterfall requiring a jungle trek, featuring powerful cascades and a misty pool

About Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Tiu Kelep is Lombok's most spectacular waterfall, located beyond Sendang Gile in the foothills of Mount Rinjani. The name "Tiu Kelep" comes from the Sasak words meaning "flying water," referring to the powerful mist that sprays from the waterfall. This natural wonder features a dramatic 45-meter cascade that plunges into a large, misty pool surrounded by lush jungle.

What makes Tiu Kelep truly special is the unique wind phenomenon created by the waterfall's power. The falling water generates strong gusts that blow upwards, creating a surreal experience where water appears to be flying back up the cliff face. The pool at the base is perfect for swimming, though the current can be strong near the waterfall itself.

The journey to Tiu Kelep is an adventure in itself, requiring a 45-minute to 1-hour trek through jungle terrain, crossing several streams and rocky paths. The trail starts from Sendang Gile waterfall, making these two waterfalls perfect to visit together. The challenging access helps preserve Tiu Kelep's pristine beauty and keeps the crowds smaller than at more accessible waterfalls.

Key Features of Tiu Kelep

  • 1 Spectacular 45-meter Waterfall - Lombok's most impressive single-drop waterfall with powerful cascades.
  • 2 Unique Wind Phenomenon - The waterfall creates upward-blowing winds that make water appear to fly upwards.
